In 2020, despite the disruption of the Covid pandemic, the many uncertainties that were generated, and the abbreviation of the event to only four days, Falmouth Sailing Week won the title of Event of the Year at the British Yachting Awards.
We have now reverted to our standard seven day format and have again included dinghy classes (racing in the Carrick Roads). The main regatta is a series of races, with courses laid in Falmouth Bay and the Carrick Roads by qualified Race Officers. All classes of boat – expert or beginner – are catered for.
Each club hosts one day,
- Sunday – Helford River SC,
- Monday – Mylor YC,
- Tuesday – Restronguet SC,
- Thursday – Royal Cornwall YC,
- Friday – St Mawes SC, and finally
- Saturday – Flushing SC!
The host club provides teas for competitors and entertainment into the early evening.
Bay Fleet competitors will race on Wednesday in the Ancasta Champagne Race. The Champagne Race is a longer race in Falmouth and Gerrans Bays.
The Carrick Fleet competitors will race on the Wednesday in the standalone Mainbrace Rum Race, first introduced in 2021.
Prizes will be awarded after each day’s racing. The prizes for Wednesday’s races will be awarded at the Royal Cornwall YC on Thursday evening.
PoFSA works closely with the Falmouth Shoreside Committee. Throughout the week this committee organises an extensive programme of events to suit all tastes and ages in Falmouth Town.
Come and join us in the racing, or watch the action take place in one of the most beautiful sailing grounds in the world.
The Falmouth Week organisers have submitted a request that the Red Arrows come during the week, but as yet, no confirmation has been received. We can be sure that something spectacular will be planned. In previous years they have presented their aerobatics display over the harbour and the bay.
The dates of Falmouth Sailing Week for 2024 are 6th to 12th August.
